Trustees Board Meeting at Shrewsbury House, Wednesday 20th September
First meeting for our new Trustees Board as elected at our AGM last June, and a big ‘Thank You’ to Stuart Lyons our new Treasurer and to new Trustees Simon Stevens, a Squirrel parent and to Kalpana Tanna, an Explorer parent for volunteering to support our Leadership team and our 100+ members.

Work Party at the Scout Hut, Saturday 30th September
We need your help at our Scout Hut for a quick Autumnal Spring Clean. There are many jobs that we need your assistance with including repairing the chimney for our wood burning stove, clearing leaves, cutting back weeds and giving the interior a really good scrub and de-bug. Please pack your garden rake, feather duster and as much water as you can carry (as we don’t have a mains supply) and head to the Hut for 10.30 am on Saturday 30th September and give us an hour or so of help.

Let’s not leave this task once again to our Leaders, who are volunteers and already do
so much for your children at the XRE.

Group Campfire, Woodlands Farm, Thursday 5th October. After last year’s success, the Group Camp Fire is on once again this year. All Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and their parents are invited to join us for a singsong around the campfire at Woodlands Farm. Each section will be asked to provide a song or stunt and this year we are going for a little home grown talent from our own Leadership team and not a guest MC to lead you all in a few traditional campfire songs and yells. Our event starts at 18.30 at Woodlands Farm on Thursday 5th October, and will last for around 45 mins followed by hot dogs and cocoa
and our traditional Mass Conker Smash as a finale. Do dress for wet weather, members should wear their Scout scarves and don’t forget a torch, camp mug and your campfire blankets?

Jamboree on the Air at Severndroog Castle, Saturday 21st October
Jamboree on the Air or ‘JOTA’ is a World Scout Event where over 1 million Scouts set up short wave radio stations in their home countries and communicate with other Scouts via the air waves, over the weekend of the 20th – 22nd October. In company with the Cray Valley Amateur Radio Club we will be running a base station in Severndroog Castle where our members and Groups from our Scout District will be able to experience a truly Worldwide Scout event. We will also be setting up a computer room so we can make face to face contact with other Scouts across the
globe via Skype. The cost per session will be £5, which includes a visit to the observation turret in the castle and a Jota badge to wear on uniforms. Your Leaders will let you know times and meeting places over the next few weeks.
Uniform required.

Remembrance Sunday Parade, Eltham War Memorial, Sunday 12th November. We will be attending this year’s Remembrance Parade at St Johns Parish Church alongside other Scout Groups from
our District and this year we will also be joined by our Squirrel and Beaver Scouts. We meet at 10.00 am at the
Woodruff Club in Eltham High Street and will walk to St Johns Church at 10.30 am ready for the national two minute
silence at 11.00 am. All members should attend in full uniform but do wear warm undergarments and a waterproof
coat. More info to follow.

Bag Packing, M&S Food Hall Eltham, Saturday 2nd December
Once again, it’s time to keep our bank balance topped up and raise a little cash on Saturday 2nd December at M&S, Eltham for our Annual Bag Pack. All Cubs, Scouts and Explorers are required to man the checkout tills between
10.00 and 17.00. Section Leaders, nearer the date, will create rotas which will be for shifts of no more than two hours long each. Any parents willing to help out supervising would also be most welcome. This event is in full smart uniform!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
