Skip’s Corner – Summer 2026
The Big Help Out and The Big Picnic
On Saturday 6th of June, along with Scouts from all over the UK, we will be volunteering within our local community and help make improvements to the local environment as part of the National Big Help Out Weekend. Each of our five Sections will be working on local projects in the parks and open spaces in and around Shooters Hill. Members should wear old clothes, a waterproof coat, a group t-shirt (if you have one) a Group scarf and don’t forget a rucksack to carry your packed lunch and a drink ready for our ‘Big Picnic’ in Eaglesfield Park from 13.00 – 14.00 to celebrate a good morning’s work.
We will also be holding a best and most interesting sandwich competition with a prize for the winner, judged by the Section Leaders.
Please confirm via the OSM Events page that your child will be attending. Each Section’s meeting place and timings and any specific equipment need for the day will be forwarded to you closer to the date.
Vassaro 2026 Deposit
We now have all deposits in from our Scouts and Explorer Scouts for our Summer Camp to Vassaro Island Sweden. We have 19 Explorers but only 8 Scouts at present signed up, which is below our minimum requirement of 30 young people attending to make the whole event financially viable. I will be meeting our Vassaro Leaders Team within the next few days to discuss what options we may have to encourage more members of the Scout section to join us next year and will get back to all with our ideas. In the meantime, if any of our Parents have any suggestions on how more of our young people might get involved, please do email me on gsl@10throyalelthamscouts.org.uk.
Spencer Bryan’s Cakes
To help raise funds to enable Spencer to attend next year’s World Scout Jamboree in Gdansk Poland, Spencer will be setting up shop selling his amazing home made cakes at our Big Picnic and at our AGM and Awards Night this summer. Please do spend some money and help Spencer self-fund his once in a lifetime journey to the Jamboree.
Uniforms
I am always very proud that my Leaders and Members generally have such a high standard of uniform, but regrettably occasionally I find necessary to remind a very few of our parents that it is not acceptable to send your child to any of our meetings without correct uniform, unless instructed to do so. I must emphasise that the XRE uniform also consists of Scout Activity Trousers or Scout Activity Shorts and that we do not wear leggings, football shorts or jeans. We are always very happy to buy uniforms and finance camps or activities for any of our members who may need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me in the strictest of confidence.
Uniforms are available on Monday evenings from 19.30 – 21.00 at the District HQ Scout Shop at Waverley Crescent, Plumstead SE18, or on-line at scout.shop.org.uk
AGM and Awards Night
We would like to invite all our Parents, Friends and Members past and present once again to our AGM and Awards Night at Christ Church School Hall on Friday 19th June at 18.45, to celebrate another year of Scouting on our ‘Hill’. After the election of Trustees and the approval of reports we will get on with investing new members into their Sections, presenting our top awards and finding out what we all got up to over the past year. We do expect all our members and their parents to do their best to attend to say a big ‘Thank You’ to their leaders and our Trustees for giving up so much of their free time each year.
Our Scout Group Diary can be found on our website 10throyalelthamscouts.org.uk and follow the link to ‘events’.
