Waiting List Policy

10th Royal Eltham Waiting List Policy

February 2019

Our Waiting List

10th Royal Eltham sadly has to operate waiting lists for all of its sections.
We accept as many children as we can each year but we have to refuse far more than we accept.
All of our leaders work full time and are volunteers and we run all the sections at maximum capacity.

As much as we would like to take all children as soon as they are interested in joining a section, we only have a limited supply of leaders and have to set safe limits on the number attending meetings.

Where possible, we look to prioritise siblings of members of the group.

It is very possible for children of ‘active Scouting volunteers’ to join much sooner than they otherwise might be able to.  We look to prioritise places for parents who wish to become Leaders or Section Assistants, offering the child a place once the parent/carer has formally joined…the ‘active’ part is important.

When to apply for the Waiting List

Children can join Beavers from the age of 6. The Waiting List for Beavers is open to children exactly 18 months before their 6th Birthday.

Children can join Cubs from the age of 8. The Waiting List for Cubs is open to children exactly 12 months before their 8th Birthday.

Children can join Scouts from the age of 10.5. The Waiting List for Scouts is open to children exactly 12 months before they turn 10.5 years old. Priority will however be given to committed Cubs.

Waiting List Criteria

Existing committed members of the Group will automatically be moved up to the next section as a priority when they reach the relevant age.

The date of joining the Waiting List is the order places will be allocated in and not by age.

When a parent joins our Waiting List you will be asked to provide the following information: child’s name, parent’s/guardian’s name, child’s DOB, address, email and telephone number of parent/guardian, and if they are a Leader or have a child in another section of our Group already.

We can only accept applications from the child’s parent or legal guardian.

We only accept applications via our website.

The Group is primarily for children living in the Shooters Hill area. If you are not close to our base(s) at Christ Church Shooters Hill or Shrewsbury House, Brinklow Crescent you may wish to consider other groups in the Greenwich District. Take a look at our neighbouring groups here

Adult Helpers

We are always on the look-out for new adults and helpers for all our sections so there is never a waiting list. Whether you want to take up a uniformed role or help out on an occasional basis in a non-uniform role you will be most welcome. Please contact the Group Scout Leader on our Contact Us page. Don’t worry, we don’t throw you in at the deep end straight away and the Scout Association has a comprehensive training programme to develop you in the role you choose particularly if you want to work directly with our Beavers, Cubs or Scouts.
