Code of Conduct Policy

Our Code of Conduct Policy

At 10th Royal Eltham we aim to provide a safe and engaging programme, in line with Scout Association recommendations, for all the young people in our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts Sections.

In order to achieve this, we have produced a ‘Code of Conduct Policy’ which aims to outline expectations, standards and behaviour for all those involved. In order to help us promote good behaviour, we ask all our young people to follow the
guidelines in the Code of Conduct.

Young people will:
• Attend meetings on time and in full uniform, unless told otherwise.
• Take an active part in all activities provided.
• Respect each other and all Leaders and helpers.
• Listen to and follow instructions given by Leaders.
• Meet all expectations of standards and behaviour outlined in the Code of Conduct.

In order to help us promote good behaviour, we ask all parents/careers to help and support the Leaders in implementing the Code of Conduct.

Parents/Careers will:
• Ensure their young person attends meetings on time and in full uniform.
• Support their young person in taking an active part in activities provided.
• Make a commitment to attend special scouting occasions throughout the year, in particular, the AGM, Remembrance Day Parade and fundraising events such as the bag pack.
• Provide any information about the additional needs of their young person that will support Leaders in planning appropriate activities. *
• Support rules, standards of behavior and sanctions that are put in place by the Leaders.

All Leaders should ensure that the Code of Conduct is applied consistently throughout their Section. All of our Leaders are volunteers who work in a voluntary capacity.

Leaders will:
• Work together to offer a varied programme of challenging and stimulating activities.
• Provide equal opportunities for members to attain badges and attend events and residential camps wherever possible.
• Recognise and acknowledge good behaviour and expected standards.
• Act on any information provided by parent/carers regarding the additional needs of their young people which may impact on their behaviour.
• Ensure sanctions outlined in the Code of Conduct are applied in circumstances where expectations of standards and behaviour have not been met.

Steps to support good behaviour and sanctions:
‘Misbehaviour makes it very difficult for Leaders to offer interesting activities-and spoils the fun for others.
In the situation where a Leader finds a young member is contravening the Code of Conduct, action
may be taken under the following guidelines:
The Leader will seek advice by discussing with fellow Leaders and the Group Scout Leader (GSL).
A discussion may take place with parent/guardian(s) for any background information or guidance
that may be of assistance.

If behaviour does not improve, then a Leader, in consultation with the GSL, will take the following steps until the behaviour has improved:
Give a verbal warning to the young person.
Give a second verbal warning to the young person and inform the parent/guardian(s).
Give a written warning to the young person giving a deadline for improvement.
Advise that formal suspension and/or dismissal will be sought for continued failure to follow the Code of Conduct.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
