Great British Spring Clean Campaign

Date: 28th Mar 2019 Author: Deborah Dumville

A massive well done to the Beavers and Cubs who joined the Great British Spring Clean campaign over the last couple of weeks. This included a Beavers’ litter pick in Oxleas Woods and around Severndroog Castle where 23 children collected 4 1/2 bags of litter and were expert users of their litter pickers, courtesy of Greenwich Council.

The children were shocked last week when they discovered this country spends £1 billion pounds per year clearing up litter. They all agree that we should take our litter home if we can’t find a bin!

The Cubs also did a litter pick in Shrewsbury Park with members of the Friends of Shrewsbury Park group. Amongst the empty cans, bottles and general litter the Cubs also found a lawnmower, bow and arrow, an old ironmongers tabard, iron, car parts and the front of a motorbike!
We also saw a lot of the posters that the Beavers made, encouraging people not to litter ?

A big thank you to those Beavers and Cubs that came along, and to the parents too for getting involved!

As Baden Powell said, “try and leave this world a little better than you found it”.
