Date: 20th May 2021 Author: Deborah Dumville

Group Camp 2020 As you may well know we are organising a Group Camp for all of our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers over the Late May Bank Holiday from Friday the 22nd to Monday the 25th May 2020. The camp will be located at Hope Hill Scout Camp, which is near to Meopham, Kent, on the North Downs. The site has modern facilities and we have booked our own field so we can all camp together. On camp we will be organising activities such as rock climbing, archery, mountain biking, shooting, canoeing, crafts, wide games, campfires with this an emphasis this year on Ecology and the Environment. Each section will be staying on camp for different lengths of time to reflect their age group. Beavers will be with us from the Sunday the 24th to Monday the 25th, Cubs from Saturday the 23rd until Monday the 25th, and

Scouts and Explorers from the evening of Friday the 22nd until Monday the 25th.

We would like to invite all parents to one of the three camp meetings listed below to give you the costings for the camp, distribute health and parental permission forms and kit lists.  Your attendance at the meetings is required if you wish your son or daughter to come on camp and please do feel free to ask us any questions that you may have. We will endeavour to keep costs as low as possible to enable everyone in our Scout Group to attend the camp.

Beaver Parents meeting: Monday the 23rd March at 18.30 at Shrewsbury House

Cub Parents meeting: Thursday the 23rd April at 19.30 at Shrewsbury House.

Scout Parents meeting: Thursday the 23rd April at 21.00 at the Scout Hut.

Explorers TBA by Louis Pinto

A camp for 100 children plus is quite an undertaking, so we will also be asking for parental volunteers (dbs pending) to help with the cooking, pitching tents, running activities and transport etc. If you would like to come and help out our camp please let us know at one of the meetings above.

Membership fees Due to increases this year in Scout Assn. associate fees, hall rental and our minibus insurance we will regrettably be forced to review our membership fees. For the last 5 years we have been charging £3 per week or £144 per year which until now has mostly covered our essential outgoings. Our Trustees (Exec) will be notifying all parents of the new yearly membership fee and will inform you how to change your standing orders at your banks.

Bag Pack We need to raise some big bucks to help us replace our old Force 10 tents, now over 30 years old and not really fit for purpose any more. We will be asking for volunteer Cubs, Scouts and Explorers to join us on Saturday April the 25th at M & S Food, Blackheath for our Annual Bag Pack. Our section leaders, nearer the date, will decide rotas of no more than two hours long. Any parents willing to help out supervising would also be most welcome. This event is in full, smart uniform please!

L2P 2020 The South London Scouts Leaders Charity Cycle Ride 2020 will be from London to Paris (L2P 2020) following the Avenue Verte Cycle Route, leaving Eltham on Saturday the 11th July and returning from Paris on the afternoon of Thursday the 16th July. Each rider will be fundraising via sponsorship for their own individual Scout Groups with 10% being dedicated to the South London County Cycle Development Plan. Team members from the XRE are Row Pinto, Andrew Crompton, Martin Hall and myself and will all be asking everyone to come behind us and sponsor us to raise money for our Scout Group.
