Squirrels Scouts are Coming to our Hill

Date: 5th Oct 2022 Author: Deborah Dumville

Squirrel Scouts is a new provision by the Scout Association for 4 to 6 year olds. The sections uniform, programme and structure were launched 12 months ago, and the section has since blossomed into 800 Squirrel Scout Dreys across the UK.

XRE are delighted to announce that we intend to open a Squirrels Drey in February 2023. We are fortunate to have recruited two parents to take up leadership roles, Anna Bienkov and Piyumi Bodhi, who are both prepared to do leadership training and to run the sections’ one-hour term time meetings at Shrewsbury House on Saturdays 9.30-10.30am.

As excited as we are to welcome 4 – 6 year olds to our Scout Group, we still need more parents to volunteer to become leaders. The adult: child ratio for early years scouting is 1:4. plus 1 overall leader, at present we have 12 young people within the Squirrel age group on our waiting list (assuming they all wish to join) but only 2 parents as yet signed up. We can only accommodate 8 children with 2 leaders and we would love to be able to accept all 12 children on our list.

If you are interested in being part of this new initiative and becoming a leader, please contact our GSL Skip on gsl@10throyalelthamscouts.org.uk

In the meantime, read more about how we will run our Squirrels Drey here.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
